Why the "R" word needs to be retired

http://r-word.org

Do you believe in the phrase
Sticks and Stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me?

I hope not.
Have you ever used the word retard?
I am sorry to say that when I was a teen-- and I didn't have a clue-- I did.
I am so very sorry that I ever thought it was funny,or cool.
My only excuse is that I was young and clueless.
I believe learned a lot of things since I was young and clueless--
I pray often that the lessons I believe I have learned show in my everyday life
The "r" word needs to be retired--and removed from conversations.
People, who are my parents' age--say --- what's the big deal?
"Heck, we never had car seats when we were kids, and if a toad was a toad --we called it a toad."
Well, now is the time for change

To quote Oprah, "When we know better, we do better---"
Let us all take this moment, and pledge to stop using the "r" word.
It serves no good purpose.

The foolish are like ripples on the water,For whatsoever they do is quickly effaced; But the righteous are like carvings upon stone,For their smallest act is durable. Horace

It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped,Each time a man stands up for an ideal,or acts to improve the lot of others,or strikes out against injustice,he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope. Robert F Kennedy

do your part, remove the "r" word from your vocabulary.

messy but brilliant ?

Our life tends to be a little messy and a little brilliant--
depending on your point of view,
or your personal views about parenting.--
That being said hehe...
My husband was mowing the lawn,
and Shane wanted to be involved,
but Shane is only 6 so -
-caution was key-- ah, hem,...
I was watching Oprah, and waiting for dinner to thaw in the microwave
-- when I looked outside to see this~
(Shane's lawnmower was not running-- I don't think it even had gas in it--- )
Shane can be somewhat difficult to interact with unless you have a car- or a video game controller~ so it was nice to see that Daddy and son could do something to-gether that, created a laugh from me and a video to post...

The previously mentioned Nutria -- is gone from our front yard-- yahoo... at least for the moment--
If I see that invasive thing again- I will take a still picture of it and post some Wanted dead psoters up!
(am I taking this issue with the Nutria too far? nah,...I don't think so...But, I do think I am kinda funny...standing in the hail just to take a video of the Nutria? have I gone too far?)
Today is our first day of Spring Break and I am at this moment happy--- the kids are enjoying watching Qubo-- Veggie Tales and I have found some new blogs to read that are so funny I snorted my coffee twice!
Hop over to Rocks in my Dryer, and also Slurping Life -- both of these ladies are great at opening your mind to new, fun, creative things!

I think it's a "God" thing...

Yesterday, the kids, Jerry and I went to my grandparents' home to "help" clean-up and organize.

To say that this was a big job is not really the best description~
Many people in my family have the need to save and dare I say ... hoard?

I only spend my time in the small bathroom, but the quantity of items I found was, stunning!

After counting 7 ~I didn't continue to count the toothbrushes still in the packages,or the jars of OIL of OLAY, still unopened, the amount of things that Grandma and Grandpa had saved was really OVER the TOP.

Having the kids with me, created some problems, how to keep them busy and not disturb any stuff that was already organized.

I gave them washcloths and they spent their time washing the walls, floors, and windows.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Anyway... I finally finished what I had done in the bathroom and we loaded the cabinet in our trailer, while it was snow/raining on us--
We got home and I took a break -- I put on the the TV and happened to catch OPRAH, talking about hoarders-- WOW...
What a moment-- it was clear to me that my need to nest and make homey can go frightfully wrong---

So, to not become worst than I am, and to keep myself apart from the Hoarding gene,
I plan to clean and give away, get rid of and make some serious changes!

I hope that by posting this here,
I will keep motivated to Keep Moving Forward! (Meet the Robinsions')

Confession~

I have a confession to make, I like TV, ~
and sometimes I will not answer the phone--
so that I can watch my favorite shows~
  • The View
  • Oprah
  • Mystery Detectives
  • Good Morning America

I think that I could learn something from these shows, and I like to see other adults, talking in full sentences!

Yesterday, while watching Oprah, to discover that Jessica Seinfeld has a cookbook out.

Bummer --- the Oprah staff didn't do enough research... the cookbook was already created by Missy Chase Lapine, it's called the Sneaky Chef! www.TheSneakyChef.com

So, anyway, I already sent a note to Oprah, because she just needs...to know! [Even my husband who avoids all topics near Oprah, suggested that I send a note to Oprah and let her know !]

Jerry is off work today and out fishing for Salmon, hopefully he will come home with some fish!

Both Jessica and Shane are in the middle of fund raisers for school, so if you NEED, any popcorn, cookie dough,or coffee, coffee beans, and jerky-- Just let me know!

Jessica came home yesterday talking all about Meth~There will be a special TV show today, October 9th 7:30pm to 8pm . www.crystaldarkness.com (KCBY11,KEZI,KMTR16,KSLR/FOX,KPIC4,KEVU)

Talking with Jessica about Meth was interesting, and scary,~hopefully Jerry and I helped her to see that Meth doesn't do anything good for you and that it's illegal for many reasons. I just didn't think that this conversation would be happening when she is only in first grade!

I have a feeling it will be an on-going conversation, I just hope my words have meaning for both of the kids!

Thanks for reading!

Out of the spiderweb-ball, into the LIGHT!

This is a picture from when our family went camping at Green Peter.
In my attempt to keep Shane occupied, and focused,
we went on a walk and found this really interesting
spider web that looked like a ball.
I was looking thru old pictures yesterday
and seeing this picture got me to thinking;

The spider seems to have such a small world, but even it's size doesn't stop it from being a part of the bigger world.

I wonder how often, that I as a mom, wife, daughter and sister,
do I only live in the spiderweb-ball?...
How often to I take a moment to see all the other things around me,~

Yesterday was grocery day and usually that is a very stressful day, Shane and Jessica don't enjoy going from store to store to find the cheapest food-stuff. Shane particularly hates waiting in line. I just get worn out trying to keep the kids out of other peoples' way, and to keep to the grocery list.
Since Jerry is still gone, I had to be more focused than usual, and as I trudged thru the day I decided to look at the whole day from a different point of view.~
What I came up with was,
I don't have to get ALL the groceries bought today.
I don't have to serve a three course meal every three hours.
I can let the kids just be kids and play in the yard while I put the groceries away.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that I am learning
to get out of my home-made spider web...and into the LIGHT!

Then when I sat to take a break, I watched Oprah,--
I saw Eat, Pray, Love's Elizabeth Gilbert
Listening to Elizabeth talk about how the book came to be, really got me to thinking, do I as a mom and all the other things,"I am" --do I eat, pray and love?
It seems like I do, but is it topical for me or is it part of the fabric of my life?---

I'm not sure of the the answer, but today is off to the trenches of my daughters' room to purge the junk and things that don't belong

Maybe, just for fun I'll post a picture of things
that we will sending out of our house into the great beyond... LOL!

Too bad I can't take a picture
of the mantras that aren't positive {I'm fat, I can't...ect.}
of the feelings I need to let go {I need to... I should...}
of the guilt that I create for myself

Maybe I will write these things down on paper
and then burn them, I wonder if that will help release them ? !

ah, well... more random, mindless thoughts !

Please send some prayers to Jacqui and her family www.Inlifeofachild.blogspot.com
