How do you explain to a very bright 6 year old
aka Shane~
that the eggs in the carton are no longer chicks
that they didn't get brains-- so they can't feel the water boiling them
that the mama chicken doesn't miss her eggs
How do you explain all of this ... to a kid who needs clear black and white instruction?

This reminds me of how I have to deal with my teen's desire to be a vegetarian...in a mo.
He needs to have a rudimentary understanding of a brain - or maybe just nerves - like in his fingers when he gets an owie. Then you say close to what you said. There is not chick in the egg - and no nerves to feel pain. Can you get a plant seed to work into the explanation?
I've been clear with my teen, fish and shellfish cannot feel pain - not enough nervous system.
