My evening was FULL...

So, last night I got up the courage to speak at our school board meeting--
I ended up being  (miss) quoted in our local news paper http://www.registerguard.com/csp/cms/sites/web/news/cityregion/25793363-41/parker-elementary-board-russell-students.csp   I ended up making a comment at the end to clarify.
And apparently I had some air time on NPR also... but I can't find a link for that.

I wasn't SUPER proud of what I said... because I wasn't as clear as I wanted to be... I ended up crying during a good portion of my 2 minutes...

Our school has almost 300 students and 80% of our families get free and or reduced lunches-- on furlough days some of our kids miss eating breakfast, and lunch--. :(   Our teachers are not allowed to be at school on furlough days-- and those days happen to be during our state wide OAKS testing.  If they change the teacher to student ratio, that will affect our school-- teachers will have to be moved around and classrooms will increase in size.

So many of the parents' who spoke last night spoke about schools that are slated for closure or colsodation.
Our school is not slated for either, but the projected budget shortfalls are huge, and I imagine that ALL of the schools in our district will be affected.

Then after all that -- emotional rollercoaster stuff..

I went to my friend Patty's house and watched the end of American Idol...
Then we, Patty, her man Conrad and myself went to see the movie Burlesque.--

What a day! ... I got up and got the kids off to school, then I walked with my Aunt Sue.. came home to do housework and Book Fair stuff-- then found out about being quoted on TV,radio and the newspaper.
My intention was only to speak up about things that had not been said-- I didn't want or crave the news media attention.
